Pair Staffordshire whippet inkwells

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 4.9ins high, 6.5ins wide, 2.6ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire inkwells which feature a whippet, recumbent on a cobalt blue base.





Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment.





Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good. Some rubbing to gilt.





Slight wear to whippet's back.



KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the nose and reverse ;





thin glaze application in places to the base.





RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to nose and ears.







Left facing: Good. Some rubbing to gilt.



Some wear to the whippet's back and base.





KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the left hind leg.
