Pair No.1 Staffordshire black&white spaniels

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 12.2ins high, 9.8ins wide, 3.7ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel, seated directly on the ground, no base.



Black and white version. Dull gilt embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.







Vent hole to the underside.



Maker's marks no.1 molded into the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good.

Slight rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage line along the mold join to chest and front leg;



flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and reverse.







RESTORATION: Retouched paint loss to eyes and nose.



Left facing: Good.

Slight rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: flecks of stray coloured glaze to the front and back;







glaze miss to the reverse;



kiln detritus caught in the glaze between the front paws.



RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to eyes and eyebrows. Retouched flake to nose.
