Staffordshire Jackfield hen on nest
Victorian, circa 1860. 7.1ins high, 8.7ins wide, 6.3ins depth. Staffordshire egg tureen and cover which features a hen sitting on her eggs on an oval basket weave tureen. Jackfield black version. Dull gilt embellishment.
Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition
Hen: Good. No restoration.
Paint losses to orange comb and wattle,
right eye
and white spots to back.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln grit caught in the glaze to the underside;
touch mark to tail.
Nest: Good. No restoration.
KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage line to the rim;
kiln soot caught in the glaze to the exterior;
stilt marks to the rim.
