Pair Staffordshire horse spill vases
Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 12ins high, 8.5ins wide, 3.1ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases which feature a horse, stood on a shaped base. Multi-coloured version. Bright gilt base line and embellishment.
Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.

Condition
Right facing: Generally good. Rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;
kiln soot caught in the glaze to the horse's back;
bruise with associated flake to top of horse's tail.
RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched cracks to horse's left shoulder, neck and side of face, chest and front left leg.
Retouched paint losses to the ground.
Left facing: Good. Rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln soot caught in the glaze to the horse's back,
front right leg
and spill at reverse;
kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the spill interior and the reverse;
fleck of stray coloured glaze to the horse's rump.
RESTORATION: Retouched paint losses to the ground.
