Staffordshire Pearlware bocage boy & deer spill

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 8.5ins high, 8.7ins wide, 4.3ins depth. Staffordshire pearlware bocage spill vase which features two recumbent deer, a boy holding a bird nest and reaching up into a tree, his dog beside him, seated on a shaped base.







Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

Condition

Fair. Crack to the underside.



Two chips to left branch.



Missing bird to right branch.



Chips to flowers, one flower missing completely.









Flaking to ground,

and spill vase.





KILN EFFECTS: firing crack across base from behind deer, under dog and down front of base.







RESTORATION: Retouched top of deer head.



Deer heads, top of spill and right branch reglued and joins retouched.













Small hole where right branch was reattached.





Retouching all the way around the lower base edge.













Completely remodelled bocage behind one deer.





60% of bocage behind other deer and some flowers to ground and deer's left ear remodelled











Part of the dog's front legs remodelled.





Bird nest remodelled.
