Pair Staffordshire No.3 black & white spaniels

Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 8.9ins high, 6.1ins wide, 3.5ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel, seated directly on the ground, no base.





Black and white version. Dull gilt collar and locket. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.





Vent hole to the reverse. Maker's marks no.3 molded into the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good. Slight rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: kiln grit caught in the glaze to the reverse;



notable crazing;







piece of kiln detritus caught inside causing piece to rattle.
RESTORATION: Filled chip to left front paw.



Retouched flake to right front paw and paint losses to muzzle,





right eye and right front foot.





Left facing: Good. Some small flakes to the ears at the reverse.





Slight rubbing to gilt;



flecks of stray coloured glaze to the reverse, chain and neck;







kiln grit caught in the glaze to the left front paw.



RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to both eyebrows and one next to left ear, muzzle, tail and front right leg.











Retouched paint loss to right eye.
