Pair Staffordshire Pearlware deer figures

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. Tallest is 7.5ins high, 5.9ins wide, 2.8ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire pearlware bocage figures which feature deer, stood on a shaped base.





Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.





Vent hole to the underside.

Condition

CONDITION: Right facing: Good. Some small flakes to the reverse and shredded clay.











A few paint losses to the deer.





KILN EFFECTS: firing hole to front left ankle.



RESTORATION. Filled chips to the bocage, lower base edge and right ear. 90% of bocage is original.











Retouched paint losses to left ear.



Left facing: Generally good. KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the deer's body and ground;







flecks of stray coloured glaze to the deer's back;



deer has a hole to its head where antlers where possibly meant to be.



RESTORATION. Stabilised and retouched hairlines to front feet.





Remodelled tail.



Stabilised and retouched crack to bocage trunk.



Retouched flakes to deer's body and ears and ground.









Filled chips to bocage leaves which are 90% original.
