Pair Staffordshire cow & milkmaid/milkman spill vases
Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 8.5ins high, 9.4ins wide, 2.8ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases with a pastoral theme which feature a cow and milkmaid/man, seated on an oval base. Multi-coloured version. Bright gilt base line and embellishment.
Flatback, decorated mainly to the front.

Condition
Right facing: Good.
Paint loss to the cow's lower lip.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the cow's upper lip.
RESTORATION: Filled chip to spill
and base at the reverse.
Tail reglued and join retouched.
Retouched paint losses to cow's markings,
udder,
feet
and maid's hair
and pail.
Left facing: Generally good.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: glaze miss to the cow's side;
over glazed chip to the milkman's hat;
kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the cow's neck;
over glazed shrinkage line to the pail.
RESTORATION. Filled chip to the base.
Stabilised and retouched crack to the reverse running onto the front.
Retouched paint losses to the cow's markings.
