Pair Sherratt Staffordshire Tam & Souter Johnnie

Pair of Obadiah Sherratt Staffordshire pearlware figures with a theatrical and literary theme which feature "Tam O'Shanter" and "Souter Johnny", one holding a cup the other a pitcher, seated on a square base.
Multi-coloured version. Double base line painted in red. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Vent hole to the underside.
This piece represents characters from the Robert Burns poem, 'Tam o' Shanter. Set in the late 18th century.

Condition
CONDITION: Tam o'Shanter: Generally good. Some small flakes to base.
A few paint losses to hat.
KILN EFFECTS: staining to his jacket.
RESTORATION: Filled chip to left knee and left arm rest.
Retouched flake to nose.
Souter Johnnie: Generally good. Flaking to the base.
KILN EFFECTS: staining to his jacket;
a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the his jacket.
RESTORATION: Filled chip to jug.
Retouched flakes to rim of jug.
