Pair Staffordshire cow, calf & milkmaid spill vases
Victorian, circa 1860. Tallest is 11ins high, 8.7ins wide, 4.3ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire spill vases with a pastoral theme which feature a cow, calf and milkmaid by a stream, stood on an oval base. Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line.
Decorated mainly to the front.

Condition
Right facing: Generally good.
Tight hairline to the cow's right hind leg.
Some rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the spill interior;
shrinkage crack to the left hind leg at the reverse;
glaze run to the yellow glaze.
RESTORATION: Cow's head reglued and join retouched.
Tips of both horns remodelled.
Filled chip to the ground.
Stabilised and retouched hairlines to the cow's left front leg
and calf's right hind leg.
Retouched paint losses to markings on the calf.
Left facing: Generally good.
Slight rubbing to gilt.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the spill interior;
staining to the reverse;
notable crazing;
glaze run to the yellow glaze.
RESTORATION: Cow's right hind leg
and calf's left hind leg remodelled.
Filled chip to right horn.
Retouched paint losses to the calf's markings
and cow's left horn.
