Staffordshire sailor & anchor figure

Victorian, circa 1860. 7.9ins high, 3.1ins wide, 2.8ins depth.





Staffordshire porcellaneous figure with a maritime theme which features a sailor resting on an anchor, stood on a circular base.





Multi-coloured with underglaze blue version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse. Open bottomed.

Condition

CONDITION: Good. Some rubbing to gilt.



Slight wear to sailor's left leg and reverse of his jacket.





KILN EFFECTS: glaze runs to the cobalt glaze;





flecks of stray cobalt glaze to the front and reverse;





two small glaze pops to the reverse;



shrinkage line to top of sailor's left leg.



RESTORATION: Three stabilised and retouched cracks to base.







Filled chip to brim of hat.



Retouched paint losses to sailor's neckerchief.
