Staffordshire hen with chicks tureen & cover
Victorian, circa 1880. 8.7ins high, 10.2ins wide, 7.1ins depth. Staffordshire egg tureen and cover which features a hen with her seven chicks.
One of the chicks is perched on her back, the others peep out from underneath her, seated directly on the ground, no base.
Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.

KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;
kiln soot caught in the glaze;
glaze misses to the hen;
over glazed shrinkage lines to the tail feathers.
