Staffordshire Pearlware Romulus & Remus watch holder

pre-Victorian, circa 1820. 11.4ins high, 8.7ins wide, 5.9ins depth. Staffordshire pearlware watch holder with a mythological theme which features Romulus and Remus with a she-wolf,
recumbent on a highly decorated watch holder base.



Multi-coloured version. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.







Open bottomed.



This piece represents part of the Roman myth of Romulus and Remus, twin brothers who were saved and suckled by a she-wolf.

Condition

CONDITION: Good.

Slight wear to the wolf's back.





KILN EFFECTS: glaze accumulation to the watch holder.



Shrinkage crack to Remus' right shoulder.





RESTORATION. Remodelled Romulus' right foot.





Filled chips to wolf's right ear and chip to lower base edge.







Minor retouched paintloss to ground,
