Large Staffordshire Earl of 'Beaconsfield' figure

Victorian, circa 1880. 16.7ins high, 7.5ins wide, 4.3ins depth.





Staffordshire figure with a political theme which features the Earl of Beaconsfield, stood on a shaped base. The piece is titled, 'Beaconsfield' .




Multi-coloured version. Bright gilt titles and embellishment. Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.





Vent hole to the reverse. This piece represents The Earl of Beaconsfield, a title created in 1876 for Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli, a favourite of Queen Victoria.
Victoria favoured Disraeli's Tory policies over those of his Liberal rival, William Gladstone.

CONDITION: Good. Slight rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: notable crazing;





flecks of stray coloured glaze to the pillar, his face, right leg and to the reverse;









kiln detritus caught in the glaze to his jacket;





over glazed shrinkage line to his left wrist.



RESTORATION: Retouched paintloss to his hair and ground.
