Staffordshire 'Macdonald's of Glencoe' figure group

Victorian, circa 1860. ins high, ins wide, ins depth. Staffordshire group which features MacDonald's of Glencoe, stood on a shaped base.





Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt base line and embellishment. Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the underside.





This piece represents MacDonald's of Glencoe with clan chief Alexander MacDonald or MacIan of Glencoe, defending his wife and child from the Campbell's.
Sir Colin Campbell ignored MacDonald's oath of allegiance, murdering the entire clan in the infamous 1692 'massacre of Glencoe.

Condition

CONDITION: Generally good. Some rubbing to gilt.





KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to her hat;



notable crazing.





RESTORATION: Remodelled pistol (now a baton).





Right arm reglued and join retouched.



Stabilised and retouched crack to dog's neck.





Filled chips to the base.





Retouched paint loss to ground, shoes, his hat and dog's muzzle.
