
George III, dated 1804. 17ins high by 12ins wide. 1804 Motif Sampler by Mary Masey. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering floral border.
Colours green, cream, blue, red, green, copper, pink, brown and black. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9.
Inscription reads
'Remember Death
Prepare to meet thy God'.
Signed and dated 'Mary Masey Her Samper 1804' and 'MM 1804'.
A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including Adam & Eve standing either side of the tree of life with a snake coiled around its trunk, titled 'The Tree of Knowledge,

CONDITION: Generally Good. A number of holes.
One patchy stain.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
