1787 Dutch Darning Sampler

George III, dated 1787. 17.5ins by 16ins wide. 1787 Dutch Darning Sampler. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.

Colours cream, gold, green and blue.

Signed and dated 'ANNO 1787 EFB OUD 14 JAAR, translated as 'EFB 14 years old'.

Comprises of darning panels worked in various different styles and patterns.

Fruit baskets and a crown.

CONDITION: Good.

A number of stains.

No stitch losses.

Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.

No colour run.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
