William IV, dated 1830. 9ins by 8.25ins wide & 8.75ins by 7.75ins wide. Two 1830 Samplers by Joanna Ridley.
Framed in an old wood frame with glass.
Fixed to board with brown paper backing.
The samplers are worked in cotton and silk on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye. Cross linked chain border.
Colours greens, cream, red, yellow, brown, blues and beige. Both signed and dated 'Joanna.Ridley 1830'.
A scattering of motifs, including potted flowering plants,
birds, stags,
fir trees,
crowns, hearts,
a fruit basket
and dogs.
CONDITION: Generally Good. No holes. A couple of pulls to the ground to one sampler, and a repair to the ground to each sampler.
Some patchy staining and a few stain specks.
Very minor stitch loss to the motifs.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frames showing some wear, but are structurally sound and in our opinion could be hung 'as is'.
