1761 Verse and Prayer Sampler by Mary Ann Colville. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to brown paper with wood backing.
The sampler is worked in silk linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, red, pink, blues and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-10
Verses read,
'Lord of this lower World frail Man was made, The Creatures
all to him their Homage paid: But when for Sin God did him once
condemn, he's neither Mafter of himself, nor them.' and 'Our Father,
which art in heaven;
hallowed be thy Name thy
Kingdom come thy will be
done on earth, as it is heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trefpaffes, as
we forgive them that trefpaff
against us. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from
evil
For thine is the Kingdom,
and the Power and Glory
for ever Amen'

A good set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including flowers and crowns
CONDITION: Generally Good. A few holes, mainly to the top and bottom edge.
Staining to the edges.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
