
George IV, dated 1823. 13.25ins by 12.5ins wide. 1823 School Sampler by Bennet Motterham. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Star border.
Colours brown, red, green, copper, white, black, pink, blue and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-21.

A good set of motifs, including building ruins (or perhaps an unfinished motif of Ilam school),
fir trees,
crowns with initials
and flowers.
CONDITION: Fair. A number of small holes.
A few patchy stains and darkening of the backing canvas.
Stitch losses to the divider lines and motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
