1832 'Blessing upon Earth' Sampler by Eliza Kelsey

William IV, dated 1832. 16.5ins by 12.75ins wide. 1832 'Blessing upon Earth' Sampler by Eliza Kelsey. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass.

Stitched to board with wood backing.

The sampler is worked in silk, fine wool and a silk-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral strawberry border.

Colours greys, cream, red, yellow, pale blue, copper, white, black, pinks, orange, greens and browns.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-11.


Verse entitled

'The Greatest Blessing upon Earth'

reads

'Peace Health and Strength with plenty's mean Content

A Heart well Managed and a life well spent

A Soul devoted and alive to God

Fond of his Smile but Patient of his Rod

Eash day prepared to Breathe its latest Breath

And most Resigned as most alive in Death'.

Signed and dated

'Eliza Kelsey Finished March 29th 1832'.

Single, finely worked, motif of a floral bouquet tied with ribbon.

CONDITION: Good.

A few holes and one pull to the linen ground.

A few pale patchy stains, barely visible.

Very minor stitch loss to one divider line and the verse.

 

 

A few loose threads.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Unevenly stretched.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
