
Victorian, dated 1841. 13ins high by 13ins wide.
1841 House Sampler by Sarah Withers. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours green, gold and cream.
Verse reads
'Let the sweet hope that thou art mine
My life and death attend
Thy presence thro my journey shine
And crown my journeys end
The leaves is green the rose is red
Here is my work when I am dead'.
Signed and dated 'Sarah Withers Finished This work october 23 1841'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
birds, flowers, trees, laden with fruit,
stags, fruit baskets,fir trees, potted flowering plants and lions.
CONDITION: Good. Two holes and slight losses to the bottom edge.
A few pale patchy stains.
No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
