1822 Irish Map Sampler by Maria M Cummins

George IV, dated 1822. 18ins by 13.5ins wide. 1822 Map of Ireland Sampler by Maria M Cummins.

Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass. Tacked to wood with chipboard and brown paper backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on fine linen ground with sub-ground of paper and silk, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border. Colours black, cream, blue, green, light brown, white, yellow and pink. Depicts a map of Ireland with surrounding seas and oceans.

Signed and dated 'A MAP OF IRELAND By Maria M Cummins 1822'.

CONDITION: Generally good. A number of small holes.

No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground.

Stitch losses to the date (probably unpicked). Repair to the signature.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. Very slight colour run around the black threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
