Stitched to linen with wood backing.
The sampler is worked in fine silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Floral border.
Colours cream, greens, pink, gold, black and pale bleu.
Verse entitled
'On Chrift our Life' reads 'I am the Reffurection faith the Lord
Eternal Lifes the Fruit of my Eternal Word
Whoever firmly does in me believe.
The Grave fhal tnot confine nor Hell receive
Nor only this but thofe that will rely
On whatI teach fhall never never die'.
Signed and dated ' Sarah Tyce her Work 1784'.
A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including a peacock, cockerel and hen with chicks, dogs, flowers,
potted flowering plants, trees, laden with fruit, stags, squirrels, trees sheep and birds.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A number of holes.
A few pale stains.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.
The silks bright and glossy.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
