
Victorian, dated 1845. 14.5ins by 16ins wide. 1845 'The Messiah' Sampler by Mary Ann Roberts. Framed in a modern wood frame with non-reflective glass.
Loose mounted over card with card and brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in a cotton-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Simple embroidered border.
Colours greens, cream, pale blue and gold.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-21.
Verse entitled
'The Messiah' reads
'The seas shall waste the skies in smoke
decay Rocks fall to dust and mountains
melt away. But fix.d his word his saving
power remains. Thy realm for everlasts
thy own Messiah reigns'.
Signed and dated
'Mary Ann Roberts done this in the 9th year of her age 1845'.
CONDITION: Good.
No holes. No stains.
Minor stitch losses to the border,
letters and numbers,
and some loose threads.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Unevenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
