
George IV, dated 1829. 20.25ins by 17.5ins wide. 1829 Soldier Sampler by Emma Hulme. Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with glass.
Loose mounted over paper which is tacked to wood backing.
The sampler is worked in a silk-like thread on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours black, cream, pale blue, pink, greens and light brown.
Verse reads
'Since then the fairest form thats made
Soon withering we shall find
Let us possess what ne'er will fade
The beauties of the mind'.

'Emma Hulme Aged 12 Hanford School March 4 1829'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including seven soldiers, one holding a flag of the St George's Cross (English flag),
together with an officer and, possibly, King George IV,
dogs,
birds,
flowers,
potted flowering plants,
fir trees,
rabbits
and stags.
CONDITION: Generally Good.
A few holes,
one with a repair.
A number of patchy stains.
Minor stitch losses to the motifs,
and to the holed areas.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
