
George II, dated 1760. 9.75ins by 8.5ins wide. Small 1760 School Sampler by Ann Cartledge. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Simple embroidered border.
Colours greens, cream, yellow, black, blues and browns.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.
An indecipherable verse.
Signed and dated 'Ann Cartledge her sampler worked att Mrs Creeds in Dronfield in Derbyshire 1760'
and 'aged 7 years 1760'.
A good set of motifs, including a lion, dogs, birds, flowers, crowns, a heart, stag and fleur-de-lys.
CONDITION: Generally Good.

Three repairs to the backing linen.

Stitch losses to one divider line,
the signature, letters
and the verse.
Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.
