1820 Sampler by Frances Johnson. Framed in an old maple frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to board with wood and brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in wool on linen ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.
Meandering floral border.
Colours black, cream, brown and purple. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9.
Verse reads 'Next unto God dear Parents I Addrefs
myfelf to you in humble thankfullnefs
For all the care and charge on me beftow'd
The meanf of learning unto me allow'd
Go on I Pray and let me ftill Perfue
Thofe golden artf the vulgar never knew'.

CONDITION: Good. No holes.
No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground. Some colours very faded making them difficult to read. No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
