1818 Sampler by Dianah Brodwell

George III, dated 1818. 10.5ins high by 12ins wide. 1818 Sampler by Dianah Brodwell. Framed in a wood frame with glass.

Glued on outer edge to card with card and brown paper backing.

The sampler is worked in cotton and fine wool on a canvas ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Simple line border.

Colours red, white, purple, orange, blue, pink and green. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-9.

Signed and dated 'Dianah Bradwell Finifed thif Feby 21 1818'.

A good set of motifs, including potted flowering plants, fir trees and a heart.

 

CONDITION: Good. A few small holes.

One pale stain.

Minor stitch losses to the border, one divider line, the signature, motifs and letters/numbers.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
