
William IV, dated 1831. 13.25ins by 9.75ins wide. 1831 Silkwork crown (could be Commemorative of Coronation of William IV - date fits) sampler by ????la Watson. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches including Algerian eye.
Cross linked chain border.
Colours greens, gold and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and numbers 1-10. Family initials.
Inscription reads
'Remember the Sabbath Day to KeeP It HOLY'.
Signed and dated 'Done by ????la Watson December the 29 1831'.
A scattering of motifs, including a number of crowns, including a large one in the centre.
CONDITION: Good. No holes. A couple of stain specks to the signature and a pale patchy stain to the bottom right corner.
Some stitch losses to one divider line, the signature and motifs.
Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
