
George IV, dated 1822. 17ins high by 12ins wide. 1822 Sampler by Maria Baker. Framed in an old, gilded, gesso frame with rippled, old glass.
Fixed to paper or card with wood backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours greens, cream, gold and brown.
Verse reads
'Lord at thy foot asham d I lie
Upward I dare not look
Pardon my sins before I die
And blot them from thy book
Remember all the dying pains
That my Redeemer felt
and let his blood wash out my stains
And answer for my guilt'.
Signed and dated

CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A few patchy stains.
No stitch losses, just one tiny loose thread to central flowering plant motif.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Stretching is slightly uneven.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
