1827 Verse Sampler by Elizabeth Young

George IV, dated 1827. 13ins by 11ins wide. 1827 Verse Sampler by Elizabeth Young. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.

Loose mounted over card (possibly glued at the edges) with wood backing.

The sampler is worked in fine wool and silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Meandering floral border.

Colours orange, cream, pale blue, red and greens.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case.

Verse reads

'The morning hours of cheerful light

Of all the day are best

But as they speed their hasty flight

If ev'ry hour is spent aright

We sweetly sink to sleep at night

And pleasant is our rest'.

Signed and dated

'Elizabeth Young Finish'd this work 1827'.

A scattering of motifs, including fruit baskets

and potted flowering plants.

CONDITION: Good.

A few small holes.

No stains other than slight uniform age darkening of the ground.

No stitch losses. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame showing slight wear, otherwise sound.
