
William IV, dated 1835. 18ins high by 20ins wide. 1835 Motif Sampler by Elizabeth Crow. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool and silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral border.
Colours red, cream, yellow, navy blue, pale blue, light brown, pink, orange, greens and black.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-10.
Verse reads
'There is beyond the Sky
A heaven Of Joy and love
And holy children When they die
Go to that World above'.
Signed and dated
'Elizabeth Crow Aged 9 in the year of our lord 1835'.
A good set of motifs, including birds,
dogs,
flowers,
fir trees,
hearts,
diamonds
and a lion.
CONDITION: Good. A few holes, some of them have been repaired.
A few patchy stains.
Some stitch losses to the border,
divider lines,
the signature,
motifs
and letters.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
