1829 Alphabet Sampler by Elizabeth Ingles. Framed in a modern wood frame with glass.
Loose mounted over card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in wool and a thick cotton-like thread on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.
Rolling waves border.
Colours green, blue, light brown and cream. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-14.
Verse reads
'Jesus permit thy Gracious Name to
ftand as the first efforts of an
infant hand and while her fingers on
the canvass move Engage her tender
thoughts to seek thy love with thy
dear children Lord give her a part and
write thy Name thyself upon her heart'.
Signed and dated 'Elizabeth Ingles Work 1829'.
A dog and rabbit motif.
CONDITION: Generally good. One small hole.
One pale stain,
slight stain where the sampler has been folded.
Minor stitch loss to the number 5,
and one loose thread.
Some colours faded making them difficult to read.
No colour run.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
