1823 Lords Prayer Sampler by Abigail Carpenter

George IV, dated 1823. 12.25ins by 12.25ins wide. 1823 Sampler by Abigail Carpenter. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.

Decorated zig zag border.

Colours greens, cream, blue, browns and grey.

Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-25.

Prayer reads

'Our Father which art in

Heaven Hallowed by thy Name

Thy Kingdom come thy will be done

in Earth as it is in Heaven Give us this

Day our daily Bread and for.give us Our Trespafses as we for.give them

That Trespafs Against us and Lead us

Not into Temptation but Deliver us

From evil Amen'

Inscription reads

'Glory be Innocence to God'.

A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including birds perched in treetops, complete with baby birds in a nest below,

angels,

flowers,

birds,

potted flowering plants,

fir tree,

blossoming trees,

butterflies,

trees, laden with fruit

and a recumbent lamb titled 'Innocence'.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A number of holes.

A few pale stain specks.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

Colours are mostly good and strong with no noticeable fading.

No colour run.

Stretching is very slightly uneven.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
