1810 Motif Sampler by Mary Vague. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering floral border.
Colours pink, cream, yellow, pale blue, gold, greens and grey.
Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case and numbers 1-24.
Verse reads
'Grant Heavenly power; thy peaceful sway
May still my ruder thoughts control;
thy hand to point my dubious way,
thy voice to soothe the melting soul.
With conscious virtue fill my heart,
and to my soul thy grace impart.'

CONDITION: Generally good.
A number of holes
and some losses to the bottom right corner.
A number of patchy stains and specks.
No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.
Colours are slightly faded but still well defined. No colour run.
Neatly and evenly stretched.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
