1808 Peacock Sampler by Naomi Brimley

George III, dated 1808. 12ins high by 10ins wide. 1808 Peacock Sampler by Naomi Brimley. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.

Stitched to linen then mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches.

Meandering floral border.

Colours greens, cream, red, pale blue, copper, gold, black, golds and pinks.

Verses read

'Oh let us Prize each fleeting Hour,

Improve the Moments in our Pow'r,

Ere time shall cease to be:

Then shall our Spirits, taking Wing,

Be crown'd with an Eternal spring,

From wint'ry Storms fet free'.

Signed and dated

'Naomi Brimley, Finished this Sampler, December the 20th 1808'.

A wonderful set of motifs, some finely embroidered, including peacocks,

birds,

flowers,

fruit baskets,

crowns,

a dog

and a squirrel.

CONDITION: Generally Good.

A few holes.

A few patchy stains and areas of age darkening.

No stitch losses other than to the holed areas.

One loose thread to the border.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.

Very slight colour run around some of the green and black threads.

Neatly and evenly stretched.

Frame in very good condition, ready to hang.
