1845 Alphabet & Motif Sampler by J Granger

Victorian, dated 1845. 16ins high by 7.5ins wide. 1845 Alphabet & Motif Sampler by J Granger.

Framed in a modern, gilt over wood, frame with mountboard surround and glass.

Loose mounted with chipboard backing.

The sampler is worked in silk and wool on canvas ground, in cross stitch and Algerian eye.

Simple line border.

Colours red, black, brown and greens. Alphabets A-Z in upper case and lower case, numbers 1-13, family initials, and the name M Smith.

Signed and dated 'Jane Granger Oct 15th 1845'.

A few motifs including peacocks, birds,

fruit baskets, fir trees,

hearts,

a dog and crowns.

CONDITION: Good. No holes. No stains.

Some stitch losses to the divider lines,

the crown motifs and letters/numbers.

Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run.

Stretching is slightly uneven.

Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
