
Victorian, dated 1863. 22ins by 18ins wide. 1863 Ireland Map Paper Sampler by M J Savage. Framed in an old wood frame with rippled, old glass.
Loose mounted or tacked to wood with brown paper backing.
The sampler is worked in a variety of stitches including an unusual wool stitch and silk-like threads on punched paper ground, in a variety of stitches.
Meandering floral and leafy border.
Colours greens, cream, light brown, gold, black and blue.

'M.J.Savage 1863 Erin go bragh'.
Erin go bragh is an Irish phrase which translates to 'Ireland Forever'.
Depicts a map of Ireland with surrounding seas and channels. Shows counties, rivers and major cities and towns.
A couple of motifs including a crown with 'VR' (Victoria Regina)
and a harp.
CONDITION: Good. No holes.
A few pale patchy stains, and uniform age darkening of the backing paper.
Some stitch losses to the harp motif.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading.
Frame showing wear and chips, but structurally sound.
