
William IV, dated 1833. 19ins high by 12.5ins wide. 1833 House Sampler by Sarah Squire. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass.
Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing.
The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in cross stitch throughout.
Meandering strawberry border.
Colours greens, cream, gold and browns.
Verse reads
'For
the Lord God
is a sun and shield
the Lord will give
grace and Glory.
no good thing
will he withhold
from them that
walk uprightly'.
Signed and dated 'Sarah Squire Finished This work July 3 1833'.
A wonderful set of motifs, including a house with a garden,
flowers,
potted flowering plants, lions,
trees, laden with fruit,
fruit baskets,
fir trees,
hearts,
birds,
diamonds, and dogs.
CONDITION: Generally Good. A few holes and some losses to the bottom edge.
A number of patchy stains and uniform age darkening to the ground.
Some stitch losses to the border and motifs.
Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. No colour run. Stretching is very slightly uneven.
Frame in good condition, ready to hang.
