Majolica 3 legged Manx sailor teapot with flag

Victorian, circa 1870. 8.7ins high, 8.3ins wide, 5.1ins depth. Majolica teapot which features three legged bearded Manx sailor sitting on a coil of rope, holding a union jack flag, which forms the handle.







Colouration: cobalt blue, turquoise, brown, are predominant.





The piece bears marks for W BROUGHTON 50 DUKE ST DOUGLAS .

CONDITION: Cover: Good. Staining to face.



KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to his hat;



shrinkage crack to the neck of the lid.



RESTORATION: Filled chip to hat brim.



Teapot: Good. Some small flakes to flag.



Staining from use.







KILN EFFECTS: glaze misses to both hands.





RESTORATION: Retouched flakes to flange and spout.
