Victorian, circa 1877. 17.1ins high, 13ins wide, 9.5ins depth. Copeland Majolica figural which features a monkey riding on the back of a tortoise.
Turquoise ground version. Colouration: brown, green, turquoise, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Copeland pottery.
Bears a pattern number, 'MALEMPRE 50 1877'. Marks include a factory specific date cipher for the year 1877.

CONDITION: Good.
Flake to monkey's hind right leg.
Some wear to the cobalt base and to the upper base.
KILN EFFECTS: slight kiln grit caught in the glaze to the upper base and monkey's body;
glaze run and uneven application to the brown glaze on the tortoise shell.
RESTORATION: Tortoise head reglued and join retouched.
