Cunha Majolica Palissy toad, frog, snake & lizard wall plate
Victorian, circa 1890. 9.3ins high, 9.3ins wide, 2.4ins depth. Cunha Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall plate which features a toad with a snake over its back, surrounded by grubs, moths, a lizard and a frog.
Scalloped rim. Colouration: green, brown, grey, are predominant. The piece bears maker's marks for the Cunha pottery.

Condition
CONDITION: Generally good. Some small flakes to shredded clay, frog's toes and one moth's wing.
KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the frog, snake and lizard.
RESTORATION: retouched chips to shredded clay;
retouched flakes to shredded clay, lizard's front right foot and one moth's wings;
filled chips to foot rim, one moth's wings and lizard's right hind leg.
