Pair Choisy Le Roi Majolica Hen & Cockerel/Rooster figurals

Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 21.1ins high, 16.5ins wide, 9.1ins depth. Pair of Choisy Majolica figurals which feature a hen and a cockerel/rooster. Colouration: brown, green, dark pink, are predominant.











The piece bears maker's marks for the Choisy pottery.

Condition

Hen: Generally good. KILN EFFECTS: a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the ground;





shrinkage line to one leaf tip.



RESTORATION: filled chips to comb and lower base edge;











remodelled tips to two leaves





and fly's right wings;



stabilised and retouched hairline to rim of planter.



Cockerel: Generally good. Flake to claw on right foot.



Slight wear to cockerel's body.





KILN EFFECTS: small firing pit to side of stone pillar;



a few specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the ground and cockerel.







RESTORATION: filled chips to beak, comb







and lower base edge;





remodelled tail feathers





and claw on left foot;



stabilised and retouched hairline to right ankle;





retouched flakes to stone pillar.
