JFS Palissy Majolica snake & lizard plate
Victorian, circa 1890. 10.6ins high, 10.6ins wide, 3ins depth. Jose Francisco de Sousa Portuguese Palissy Majolica plate which features a large snake, lizard, moth and frog.
Colouration: green, grey, ochre, are predominant.
The piece bears maker's marks for the Jose Francisco de Sousa pottery.

CONDITION: Generally good.
Some small flakes to shredded clay.
KILN EFFECTS: small firing pit to frog's head;
over glazed shrinkage lines to the lizard's claw.
RESTORATION: Filled chips to wings and antennae to moth
and shredded clay.
Retouched flake to frog's eyebrows.
