Large Mafra Majolica Palissy fish plate

Victorian, circa 1890. 13ins high, 13ins wide, 2.6ins depth. Mafra Portuguese Palissy Majolica wall platter which features three fish lying on leaves.
Colouration: brown, cream, green, are predominant.



The piece bears maker's marks for the Mafra pottery.

CONDITION: Good.

Two small flakes to two of the fish's mouth.





KILN EFFECTS: kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the middle fish's tail;





shrinkage crack to the underside.





RESTORATION. Section of one fish's tail reglued and join retouched.



Filled chip to the middle fish's fin and tail.







Retouched flake to the rim.
