Majolica Stag with hunting paraphernalia game pie dish

Victorian, circa 1880. 7.7ins high, 13.4ins wide, 9.8ins depth. Majolica game pie dish with liner which features stag heads and foliage to the dish, gun, hunting horn and equipment to the cover.



Colouration: cream, pink, brown, are predominant.

Condition

Cover: Good.

Short, tight hairline to rim.





Slight wear to hunting horn.



KILN EFFECTS: a speck of kiln detritus caught in the glaze and a couple of firing pits to the interior of the hunting horn;



small shrinkage crack to the underside.



RESTORATION: Stabilised and retouched crack to side of horn.



Retouched flake to rim of horn.



Dish: Good.

Wear to interior and inner rim.











KILN EFFECTS: some crazing to the ground and interior;







a couple of specks of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to the exterior;





staining to the interior.



RESTORATION: end sections to both branch handles have been remodelled.





Retouched flake to rim above one of the stag's head.



Liner:

Stray speck of glaze to the underside of base;



a few specks of kiln soot to the interior.
