Staffordshire 'Moody' titled figure

Victorian, circa 1860. 17.3ins high, 6.9ins wide, 4.5ins depth. Staffordshire figure with a religious theme which features Dwight Lyman Moody (1837-1899), stood on an oval base. The piece is titled, 'Moody' . Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt embellishment.





Flatback, decorated mainly to the front. Vent hole to the reverse.





This piece represents Dwight Lyman Moody who in 1858 opened a Sunday school in Chicago and together with Ira David Sankey wrote the 'gospel hymns'. Book reference,'Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875' Book 1, by A.& N. Harding, page 89, figure 209.

Small flake and bruise to lower base edge.



Some rubbing to gilt.
