Staffordshire Ridley & Latimer on fire group

Victorian, circa 1860. 9.4ins high, 5.5ins wide, 3.9ins depth. Parr Factory Staffordshire group with a religious theme which features the Bishops Ridley & Latimer burning at the stake, stood on an oval base. The piece is titled, 'RIDLEY AND LATIMER' and below the words, 'Be of good comfort, Master Ridley, and play the man we shall this day light such a candle, by God's grace, in England, as I trust, shall never be put out' . Multi-coloured version. Dull gilt embellishment.









Decorated 'in the round' - decoration to front and reverse.



Vent hole to the underside.



This piece represents the two men being burnt at the stake for heresy, on instruction of Mary I, becoming two of the three Oxford Martyrs of Anglicanism.

Generally good.

Small chip to lower base edge.

Slight rubbing to gilt; notable crazing.
