Pair Staffordshire recumbent white&gilt spaniels

Victorian, circa 1880. Tallest is 5.9ins high, 9.4ins wide, 4.9ins depth. Pair of Staffordshire figures which feature a spaniel, recumbent directly on the ground, no base.



White and gilt version. Bright gilt embellishment.





Flatback, decorated only to the front.



Vent hole to the underside.

CONDITION: Right facing: Good.

Rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: shrinkage marks along the mold join to spaniel's back and left front leg;





notable crazing;





a few pieces of kiln detritus caught in the glaze to front;






small firing pit to just above right front paw.



RESTORATION. Retouching to nose and muzzle.

Rubbing to gilt.



KILN EFFECTS: bruise to underside of left front leg;

touch mark to the reverse.
